Hi there! My name is Steven and I have a passion for helping children and their families thrive. I earned my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Central Florida, where I developed a strong foundation in human movement and physiology. Driven by my desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others, I earned a Master’s in Occupational Therapy in 2016 from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. This is where I fell in love with the pediatric side of therapy. I take immense pride in being one of only nine occupational therapists in the state of North Carolina who are Board Certified in Pediatrics. I have had the honor to have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of children and their families, from 3 months old to young adulthood. The joy I feel in helping these young individuals reach their full potential is truly indescribable.
Throughout my career, I have developed a comprehensive skill set that allows me to provide holistic pediatric therapy across various areas. Sensory based therapy is my true passion. Although not easily understood, I feel sensory processing is often the “missing piece of the puzzle” when a family just can’t figure out how to meet their child’s needs. As our world becomes increasingly demanding from a sensory perspective, I hope I can teach, guide, and facilitate a more positive experience in everyone’s sensory world.
I am skilled at enhancing children’s gross, fine, and visual motor coordination, recognizing the importance of physical development in their overall well-being. I also assist children in improving their activities of daily living, including grooming/hygiene, sleep, and toileting. By focusing on these essential life skills, and tailoring therapy sessions to each child’s needs I empower children to become more independent and self-sufficient.
Another challenging, but rewarding area I can help with is overcoming picky eating behaviors. By employing effective strategies including the SOS approach, I help children develop a more varied and balanced diet, setting them on a path toward better overall health.
In addition to these essential areas, I can play an important role in improving academic participation and performance. I understand the significance of addressing educational needs and strive to help children overcome challenges, ensuring they can fully engage in their learning environment and reach their academic potential.
Lastly, I am dedicated to nurturing the social-emotional skills of the children I work with. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, I help them develop stronger social skills and emotional resilience. This empowers them to navigate social interactions with confidence and build meaningful connections with others.
I look forward to meeting you and your family.
